Principal Scientist

Discipline: Veterinary Microbiology

E-mail ID: sbarua06@gmail.com

Area of Research Interests:

Scientist has keen interest in Molecular and Diagnostic Virology, Tissue culture and Molecular Epidemiology of pathogenic microbes in addition to biosafety and Biosecurity. He has experience of handling tissue culture and working on prevalence and characterization of viruses such as Morbilliviruses (Rinderpest, Peste des petits ruminants virus, PPR), Herpesvirus (IBR), Adenovirus (FAV), Reoviridae (BTV), Pox viruses (CMLV, BPXV, ORF) etc which have been some of his research priorities.

The Scientist completed B.V.Sc. & A.H. from College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Guwahati under Assam Agricultural University in 1991. He was the recipient of University Merit scholarship during graduation. Having received the Junior Research Fellowship of I.V.R.I., Izatnagar in 1992, he completed his M.V.Sc. in Veterinary Virology in 1994 from I.V.R.I., Izatnagar / Mukteswar, U.P. In 1995, he was associated with the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), at Gwalior as a Research scholar in the Virology department working on Adaptation and characterization of Human Rota Virus. He joined the Agricultural Research Services of Indian Council of Agricultural Research as Scientist (Veterinary Microbiology) at Central Institute for Research on Goats, Makhdoom, Mathura in March, 1997. He was awarded Ph.D. Degree in 2002 by the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, U.P. The Scientist joined the Veterinary Type Cultures facility at NRCE, Hisar in 2006 and had been the Incharge of the culture collection from 2007-2010. He has also undergone international trainings in the application of Laboratory Biosecurity programme in biorisk management at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, USA as well as Advanced Biorisk training at Australian Animal Health Laboratory, Geelong, Australia,  the expertise is being utilized in the establishment of the microbial repository
